Question 3

Is "futt about" formal or informal?

Accepted Answer

"futt about" is register-neutral — appropriate in both casual and formal contexts. Extremely rare and largely dialectal. 'Futt' appears to function as a euphemism for 'fart' or 'fuck' in this expression. Used in British English, mainly in older or regional dialects. Most speakers will not recognise this expression. 'Mess about' or 'muck about' are the natural modern replacements.
